Chloe Edwards, an 11 year old from our Bella Vista Unit, represented the Boys and Girls Club of Benton County in the State Finals “Hoop Shoot” put on each year by the Elks Lodge. They traveled to Hot Springs for this event. We are very proud of Chloe who came in 9th place out of 25 contestants.

103 Participate In 6th Annual Texas Hold’em Tournament

Players at Final Table

The 6th annual Texas Hold’em tournament sponsored by Unilever took place January 29th, at the Bentonville Plaza. Over 100 participants competed in the tournament and $15,500 was raised to help underwrite the costs of providing programs and services to the club’s youth. Bill Towler was the winner of the tournament and took home the grand prize which was a 47″ LG LED 3D TV with 3D Blue-ray and glasses. The other winners at the final table also walked away with some great prizes such as a 32GB iPad, Naturals basket, Kindle Fire, digital camera and more. A special thanks to Unilever, Abuelo’s, Bentonville Plaza, Beam Global, N.E.W., Jarden, Arvest, Anheuser Busch, Hormel Foods, Breyers Ice Cream, Celebrate Magazine, Cumulus Radio for helping to make the event a success.

KIMBERLY-CLARK RESPONDS TO BUDGET CUTS FOR THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF BENTON COUNTY

The Boys & Girls Club of Benton County recently received an entire tractor-trailer load of paper products from Kimberly-Clark, a long time supporter of the Club. The donation of nearly 700 cases is valued at nearly $20,000. According to Jacob Hutson, Chief Professional Officer for the Boys and Girls Club of Benton County, “With the recent announcement of lost funding from a state grant, this donation could not come at a better time to help save on costs of having to purchase these items for our four Club sites. We are so thankful for the longtime support that Kimberly-Clark has provided to the Club over the years.” Stephen Beringer, Vice President of Sam’s Club Customer Development for Kimberly-Clark and also serves of the Boys and Girls Club of Benton County Board of Directors, said Kimberly-Clark is proud of both our national and local relationship with The Boys and Girls Club. During these difficult economic times, the value of “giving” is even more important. This gift of Scott Towels and Viva Towels is another great example of how we can help the club and its members. This product will help defray operating costs of the four Benton County clubs, and let’s face it, kids get dirty, so they need a lot of paper towels to help clean up! We are proud of our relationship with the Boys and Girls Club of Benton County, and are glad we can help!”

Kids Get New Shoes

A Good Fit

For the 3rd year in a row, the Boys and Girls Club of Benton County and the Payless Shoes for Kids program teamed up to provide new shoes to 75 Children. Club staff identified families whose children were in need of new shoes but the families were not in a financial position to provide them. Our thanks go out to Payless Shoes for including Boys and Girls Club families in this special program.

3rd Annual Johnson & Jonhson Dental Screening Serves 275 Kids

Smiles for J&J

For the 3rd year in a row, the Boys and Girls Club of Benton County and Johnson & Johnson sponsored a children’s dental screening. The screenings took place at the Bella Vista, Rogers and McKinney Clubs and were available to every Boys and Girls Club member. 275 children received the free screenings this year. Registered dental hygienists and Dentists: Daniel England and Kurt Solera performed the screenings and taught the children the importance of proper flossing, brushing and rinsing. Each child that received the screening got to take home a goody bag filled with a new toothbrush, floss and mouthwash. Thanks again to J&J for sponsoring this event and inspiring the children to learn the importance of healthy oral habits. Thank you Johnson & Johnson.

Keystone Club Toy Drive a Success

For the last couple of months the Keystone Club been working on getting donations to provide kids in Joplin with presents for Christmas. They contacted the Boys and Girls Club of Joplin and Grace Baptist Church of Joplin and were provided lists of 49 children in families who had lost everything in the tornado last May. They teamed-up with Metro Church in Rogers to raise money to purchase gifts. Metro Church donated $3,000 enabling $100 per child in gifts for 30 kids. Some very generous people from Metro Church then sponsored multiple kids. The Keystone Club then set up a toy drive drop site at every club in Benton County and received donations from club families, a business in St. Louis, MO, and other various people/organizations.

Once all donations were received they were able to fill an entire POD full of toys for 49 children. The Boys & Girls Club of Joplin and Grace Baptist arranged a day where they met the families and passed out the gifts. Benton County teens went to Joplin and distributed the gifts and spoke with families to see if there was anything else they could do. The families were very thankful and surprised. Keystone Club teens were able to have an opportunity to see a situation that was bigger than themselves, work together, and provide complete strangers with more presents for Christmas than most of our teens will receive this year. This project was very impactful on many people.
