Physical Fitness and Nutrition Educations
Triple-Play: A Game Plan for the Mind, Body and Soul
The Body game plan includes the performance of group fitness challenges, kids choosing and performing a daily personal fitness challenge, and athletics.
Results
In 2011, a total of 2,595 children participated in daily group fitness challenges with an average daily participation in Fitness Challenges of 128 children. In each of the 777 Fitness Challenges held at the 4 Boys and Girls Club facilities, 100% of the youths met the exercise duration levels and 86% met the exercise intensity level recommended by the Arkansas Department of Education curriculum framework.

The Mind game plan includes the Healthy Habits curriculum for nutrition education. The curriculum consists of three age-level curricula of 10 lesson plans. The class builds off the basic food pyramid presented in class one to helping kids develop knowledge and skills to make smart food choices, understand appropriate portion sizes, and create fun and healthy meals.
Results
185 kids participated Health Habits nutrition education classes in 2011 and achieved an average 4 point increase in nutrition knowledge in Healthy Habit post test over pretest. 73% of Club Kids report having better skill to make positive food choices since joining the Club on the Child Needs & Outcome Survey.
The Soul game plan integrates sportsmanship themes into the social recreation activities. The Games Room is a rich environment in which informal guidance and character development are occurring. Young people learn to compete and to win and lose graciously. Goal setting skills are being developed as kids prepare for weekly tournaments.
Results
769 children participated in the Social Recreation program in 2011 with an average daily participation of 78 youth. Club Kids report peers being a positive influence at a rate of 23% greater, report having the skills to make positive choices at a rate of 20% greater, and report opportunities for positive activities at a rate of 31% greater than their Benton County peers.
Health Prevention and Promotion:
Dental Screening
For the 3rd year running Johnson & Johnson has worked with the Boys and Girls Club to provide our children with a dental screening. In 2011, 275 kids were provided dental screening
Oral Hygiene
An oral health program targeted for 6-15 year old club members. The program provides education about oral hygiene and provides children with the tools to maintain great oral hygiene.
